New Stuff

If you know me, you know that I LOVE all things domestic. I have really gotten into making cleaning and personal supplies from home lately, I thought it might be a good idea to share my research and personal experience with the products I make from home. You will be surprised at all the products you can make in your own house. I plan to get my information from all sorts of different places such as, internet sites, magazines and personal discoveries. I will also include some practical tips that include things you will find just lying around your house. Hope you enjoy!

About a year or so ago, I learned that people could actually make their own laundry detergent from home. Imagine that! I found a recipe on http://www.duggarfamily.com. I "tweaked" it a little to suit my personal preferences. Here's the recipe ...

*1 Fels Naptha soap bar, grated
*1 cup baking soda or washing soda
*1/2 cup borax
*1 10 gallon bucket
*water

Melt grated soap with 4 cups of water on low heat until dissolved.  Start filling up the bucket with water as hot as you can stand and pour in borax and soda. Pour melted soap into bucket and stir. Continue to fill bucket with water and stir until you are satisfied that all ingredients are mixed well.

++I normally skip this next step, but cut my measurements in half. I just dip straight from the bucket.++
Fill a clean, used laundry soap dispenser half full with water and the other half soap. Use 5/8 cup per regular load. Soap will gel. It may also be a little lumpy, but it still works.

**** The Duggar website claims that you cannot successfully use baking soda. However, I have been using it, successfully, for over a year. No complaints.
**** You can use ivory if you wish, but I personally find that it just doesn't clean as well as Fels Naptha.
